  1. Hello Cohort,
I thought I'd just chat about what technology I had to use at work this week that had a little bit to due with the first ISTE regarding creativity....our head start office has had a goal of creating an informational brochure for quite some time and it wasn't getting anywhere so I offered to take on the project and use Microsoft Publisher to come up with a two-sided brochure that included a side with return address for possible mailing. I hadn't ever created anything quite like this with publisher, so it was an adventure. I also used, for the first time, the comment funcion of word for editing a document. Never knew how our instructor's were doing that with the papers we were handing in electronically....now I know! ;0)

  2. Here's a site I found through PBS and explanation:

Learning.now is a weblog that explores how new technology and Internet culture affect how educators teach and children learn. It will offer a continuing look at how new technology such as wikis, blogs, vlogs, RSS, podcasts, social networking sites, and the always-on culture of the Internet are impacting teacher and students' lives both inside and out of the classroom.

  3. I read an article from DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION magazine on main ideas of how to incorporate creativity and innovation in the classroom, it was a bit mushy in some parts but the statement, "Those who are nimble, flexible, open-minded and creative will have the edge in the future" hit home because it often seems like we are doing the opposite! We need to use technology for the "right" type of assignment.

  4. Our media specialist opened a door for me about a week ago when she show me databases that have been purchased by the district... that would have been very helpful when we were doing our research (we have purchased full text articles - I never knew)

I am not sure how to explain to you how to get to them but I could show you next week!

  5. There is a whole world of technology at my fingertips that I have not ever used. I am learning about blogging as we speak. I have been on serveral websites this week, reading about the National Educational Technology Standards. I didnot even know they exsisted before last weeks class.
I also used a website this week that creates crossword puzzles and word finds which I used for my fourth grade classes spelling words and vocabulary words. That was cool!
And I created at spreadsheet from Microsoft Publisher for use as a reading log in my classroom. In math we have been working on adding and subtracting decimals using money and I fond a cool game on Mrs Cannons called lemonade stand that allowed my students to practice some of their new math skills. It was fun.

  6. What fun it is to read what everyone has to say. Thanks for your work this past week. I hope you will find this a useful tool to share your thoughts, successes and "Ah Ha!" moments.

  7. I searched and scanned articles through google scholar this week to find information regarding the use of smartboards in elementary classrooms. The one I liked was a research paper from a second grade teacher doing her masters in technology. Interesting results.
