Comment to this post with a brief overview of your work from the previous week. Include details of sites you may have visited, articles you may have read and work you may have completed.
I spent more time this week looking at on line resources for teachers. These were some that I will definitely bookmark. www.readwritethink.org www.4teachers.orgcurriki.org www.emints.com www.cybersmart.org and Bob and Michelle you might want to check out www.learningscience.org
This week I spent time with a study partner looking through delicious markers for more info to create technology plan and rubric. Getting closer....:0). At work I had to do some updating on a power point I created to inform and engage the special education department about timely early intervention with preschoolers and also designed a couple flow charts for our referral processes that will be used as a teacher/parent informational tool. I was introduced to flashmobs today... go to www.flashmob.com to find out more. The church I attend tweaked the idea to "flashserve" which they encouraged everyone to text to 313131 to be on a list to be updated on an opportunity to clean up park point on Earth Day. It's pretty cool.
I found something you all can use! The website is donorschoose.com. It is a place you can request donations for your class and donors hook up with you and buy your requests. then they are mailed directly to you school. I made a request so i will see how it goes and let you all know. I also started my three fold brochures project in my class, so I am teaching the kids how to search online for information and create brochures.
Linda I am having my students also make 3 fold brochures for energy use (solar, nuclear, hydro, wind, geothermal, etc.)they need to sell their energy as the best! I have never used microsoft publisher before but decided to try it and it is very simple! Another new tool! Let me know how yours goes.
The website I used this week for my reading may come in handy when planning out technology plans. It has several links to articles, teacher/student rubrics and goals/action plans.
I have continued to search for virtual lab sites that are meaningful and understandable for students. I've been checking for a number of disciplines. I found one of the same sites that Ruth did (learning science.org)and several others. I'm sure there are better sites out there than I am finding. Usually the sites have one or possibly 2 somewhat usable. activities but many more that do not fit into what I would ever use. I am back at work and had the sub give students an extra credit assignment to make a video explaining Newton's laws of Motion. Only one group has followed through, but they posted it on Youtube. It was cute, and the outtakes were about twice as long as the informational portion.
Sites that were marginally good: http://www.schemmscience.com/physics/virtlab/ some apply, some too complex
http://www.learningscience.org/ All disciplines covered, some usable
http://www.sciencegems.com/ links to some good sites, not all virtual labs
