  1. I'm pretty sure I posted this already, but I don't see it...so...just wanted to say hope everyone has a great week off..I will be reading our book and trying to make a "skeleton"/rough draft of tech plan and rubric. I have done extensive research the past couple weeks to formulate a consistent behavior plan for Head Start following Positive Behavior Support/Functional Behavior Analysis processes. This process has proven useful to get at the function of children's problem behaviors and helps with differentiating between behaviors that are environmental/motivational in nature, or are perhaps more pathological/medical. Teachers can use this information for individualization/data-driven instruction as well as for the academic areas. We've learned now, that academics won't "stick" as well if a person's social-emotional wellness is not in tact. I found a cool online "diary" for kids that incorporates SEL: http://www.emosocial.com/ParentsHome.aspx

  2. One of the best ways that teachers can explain/teach digital citizenship is by being a good example - if students become used to the idea, they will follow it.

I used the URL shortener, to give the addresses to very direct/concise websites which addresses nine themes of digital citizenship and tips for parents and teachers

So my main thoughts after viewing theses are: when is this information taught? should it be a class or what should it be integrated with? does every teacher need to teach it and risk being redundant?

  3. Okay, it's time to try again. I wrote a post earlier this morning and even tried to add a link (Jay, didn't you add an HTML helper link on the home page at our last meeting?) Well, I don't kow what I hit or what I did, but it wouldn't post anything if I wasn't a member and then everything disappeared.Augh.
This week I sent my computer to the doctor for several days - I will explain in class - so did not do a lot of research or work on my tech plan or syllabus. I did read the text and began to think about what I would like to incorporate into a personal tech plan that is adaptable to various classes. With the BIG FILL coming soon I don't really know what or where I'll be teaching next year.
I do want to figure this LINK insertion out so maybe we can spend a little more time on that this evening. Meanwhile, if anyone has the time or patience to follow this connection, watching the first Minute and 40 seconds gives some insight into how intelligent some our congress is. The congressman is questioning the admiral regarding the navy's plan to increase the US presence in Guam. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs23CjIWMgA

  4. I found a new dite called KidsKonnect.com
..... a safe Internet gateway for kids of all ages!
There are 425 portal pages on KidsKonnect
We used it for exploring the Grand Canyon as an enrichment to our reading curriculum this week. The kids really loved it!
